Established Warlpiri artist Maureen Hudson Nampijinpa is well known for her mesmerising works depicting the desert landscape of her homelands. As exemplified in this particular work, Maureen encapsulates the immensity, rhythm and forms of Central Australia moulded and shaped by the elements. She draws on images and designs of her 'Country' which often include 'Tali', or sandhill designs, as well as a broad collection of traditional stories to create the motifs that we see in her paintings.
Maureen Hudson Nampijinpa also paints designs associated with women’s ceremonies, including ochre body paint designs applied to the dancer’s bodies and the ritual sweeping of the Ceremonial grounds. These paintings relate to the Women’s ceremonies around Mt Allan, the artists birth place.
